'The theater originally opened in September of 1931 to a crowd not only inside the theater, but on the streets outside. Nearly 30,000 people crowded around this glamorous theater to get a glimpse of the film stars who would be attending the theater's opening. Stars of the day like Charles Farrell, Janet Gaynor, Anita Paige, Will Rogers and child star Rosemarie all were in attendance for the premiere of Merely Mary Ann, which debuted at the theater's opening.
