Florida State Seminoles History

With 20 varsity teams, more than a century of top-tier athletic competition (dating to 1902) and a spot in the one of the elite conferences in the country, the ACC, the Florida State Seminoles always seem to be in the middle of one amazing sporting event or another, creating a tradition of excellence that gives them one of the best athletic programs in the entire nation. Though the Seminoles are well known for their football and basketball teams, they also have plenty of other top programs as well, including baseball, soccer, lacrosse and plenty of others. But even though the Seminoles have plenty of different strong teams, it doesn't get any better than Doak Campbell Stadium, where you'll find more than 80,000 fans for the biggest games of the season.

With another title following the 2013 season – making nine in total going all the way back – the Seminoles football squad is once again one of the very best teams in the entire nation, showing that you don't have to be in the SEC to have a powerhouse program that can go the distance. With the Seminoles in another exciting era of football, there is sure to be plenty of fanfare around this program where and whenever they take to the gridiron. Officially established in 1824, Tallahassee has been a prominent city in Florida for a very long time, and this is a city that really springs to life when the 'Noles are gearing up for a big matchup, regardless of the sport. Florida State University is even the second biggest employer in the city, cementing it as a staple and cultural hub of Tallahassee.
