Founded in 1971 because of the Western Athletic Conference’s lack of bowl invitations for its undefeated champions, most notably Arizona State, the Fiesta Bowl originally served as an automatic bowl invite for their conference champions. Since 2007, State Farm Stadium in metropolitan Phoenix has been the home of the annual Fiesta Bowl. PlayStation has been sponsoring the bowl since 2016, so it is officially called the PlayStation Fiesta Bowl. Past sponsors have included Frito-Lay, Sunkist, BattleFrog, IBM and Visio. The Fiesta Bowl was inducted into the College Football Playoff (CFP) conference in 2014 and will host a semi-final game every three years. Teams for these games are chosen by the CFP Selection Committee.
