The Delaware Fightin' Blue Hens football team represents the University of Delaware. With a storied history over 117 years of existence, the Fightin' Blue Hens have won six national titles. The Fightin' Blue Hens won their first title in 1946 in the AP College Division, followed by more titles in 1963, 1971, 1972, 1979 and 2003. In 2007 and 2010, the Fightin' Blue Hens also played in the FCS National Championship game. In addition to a strong team and a great record, the Delaware Fightin' Blue Hens football team has an enthusiastic, strong fanbase. ''Head coach Danny Rocco helms the Delaware Fightin' Blue Hens football program. He came to Delaware in 2017 after a successful playing and coaching career. Known as a friend of Al Groh, he played at Penn State and Wake Forest as a linebacker. After graduating, he entered coaching at his alma mater, Wake Forest. After his stint there, he moved on to the University of Colorado at Boulder and the University of Tulsa, coaching linebackers. He moved to Boston College as a defensive line coach. His first head-coaching stint was at Liberty University where he won the Coach of the Year title for the Big South Conference. In 2011, he became head coach at the University of Richmond before departing for the Fightin' Blue Hens in 2017.'
'Bill Murray, first a football player at Duke and then a coach, led the Delaware football program from 1940 to 1950, with a three-year interruption for World War II, during which no team was formed. He took the Delaware Fightin' Blue Hens football team to their first national championship in 1946 in the Cigar Bowl. Murray has been inducted into the Delaware Sports Museum and Hall of Fame. Since his departure for Duke in 1950, subsequent head coaches have continued to build the reputation of the team. The University of Delaware stands out because it has significant academic prestige as well as a record of strong athletic accomplishments on the football field.'
