David Cassidy tour dates

A teen idol in the 1970s thanks to his starring role as Keith Partridge on the popular musical sitcom The Partridge Family, David Cassidy continues to enjoy success as a singer-songwriter and guitarist to this day, performing hits from throughout his career, including I Think I Love You and Cherish.

David Cassidy's background

David Cassidy was born into a musical family in New York City in 1950. Father Jack Cassidy was a singer and actor, and mother Evelyn Ward was an actress. They were often away on tour, leaving David with his grandparents, and it was only when his father remarried and introduced his stepmother, singer and actress Shirley Jones, that David got a taste of the limelight himself. His first professional opportunity came when he joined the cast of the Broadway show The Fig Leaves Are Falling.

Cassidy was spotted by an agent, and soon moved to Los Angeles to begin screen testing for roles in TV and film. Signing to Universal Studios as an actor, he made appearances on such shows as Ironside and Marcus Welby, M.D.. He then won his most famous TV role in The Partridge Family, playing the son of his real-life stepmother, Shirley Jones. Cassidy soon became the main singer on the musical sitcom and a teen heartthrob.

David Cassidy's music

Cassidy's first musical releases were Partridge Family albums featuring songs from the TV show. Eight studio albums were released in the space of just three years to capitalize on the show's success, including a Christmas album that reached No. 1 on the Billboard 200 chart. The group's first single was I Think I Love You, a Billboard Hot 100 No. 1. It was followed by further U.S. hits, such as Doesn't Somebody Want to Be Wanted and I'll Meet You Halfway.

Cassidy was the stand-out star of the show, and the obsession of his young, mostly female fans was known as Cassidymania. A David Cassidy tour would see girls fainting and crying at the sight of their idol. Cassidy began releasing solo albums and singles, his biggest hit Cherish from the album of the same name.

After a few years on The Partridge Family, and still only in his early 20s, Cassidy decided to quit the show and focus on his music career. He became a big star in Europe, with hit singles such as Daydreamer, a U.K. No. 1. He enjoyed a U.S. comeback hit in the 1990s with the song Lyin' To Myself and appeared in many musical theatre productions, including Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat and Blood Brothers on Broadway.
