Born in Portland, Ore., in 1962 and raised in Corvallis, Christopher Steven Botti began playing the trumpet when he was just nine. He played his first Carnegie Hall performance in 1981 when he was selected to be a part of McDonald's All-American High School Jazz Band. He went on to perform on short tours with the legendary Frank Sinatra and Buddy Rich. Botti moved to New York City in 1985 and began working on his career as a studio musician, releasing his first solo album in 1995. A few years later, he began touring with
Sting
. Forming a strong professional relationship with the musician, the two would continue to work together on several more collaborations. Botti's ongoing partnership with PBS began in 2006, and it helped to boost album sales and bring the jazz musician in front of new audiences who would continue to enjoy his work.
