The Calgary Roughnecks came onto the
National Lacrosse League
in 2001 after a franchise expansion. Canadian businessman Brad Banister owned the franchise until June 14, 2011. Banister is credited for building the Roughnecks into the powerhouse it is today. He has also received a great deal of credit for attracting and signing top-tier players like Kaleb Toth and Lewis Ratcliff to the team. In 2011, the Calgary Flames Ltd. purchased the Calgary Roughnecks.

Scotiabank Saddledome
is a multipurpose arena that was built in 1983. In addition to serving as the home for Calgary Roughnecks, this multipurpose arena is also home to the Calgary Stampede, Calgary Hitmen and the Calgary Flames. Before the name change in 2010, the facility was formerly known as Canadian Airline Saddledome (2000-2010), Canadian Airlines Saddledome (1995-2000) and Olympic Saddledome (1983-1995). Scotiabank Saddledome comfortably seats 19,500 fans. The facility is equipped with premium seating, which includes private executing suites. The Saddledome has ample parking to accommodate fans who arrive by car, truck, SUV or camper. Attendees have their pick of award-winning restaurants with menu items ranging from steaks to burgers and anything in between. ''The Calgary Roughriders have won three National Lacrosse League Championships. The first came in 2004 with a 14-11 win over the Buffalo Bandits. In 2009, the Roughriders edged out the New York Titans 12-10 for their second championship win. The third championship win came in 2019 when the Roughriders narrowly defeated the Buffalo Bandits in a nail-biting 14-13 overtime win.'
'The Calgary Roughriders have had a number of high-caliber players over the last 20 years. Several have received individual awards for excellence. Regular season Most Valuable Players include Jeff Shattler in 2011, Shawn Evans in 2013 and 2015 and Dane Dobbie in 2019. The Playoff Most Valuable player winners are Curtis Palidwor in 2004, Josh Sanderson in 2011 and Dane Dobbie in 2019. Taylor Wray won Rookie of the Year in 2004, and Curtis Dickson won it in 2011. Taylor Wray also won Defenseman of the year in 2004.'
