Racegoers can choose to just watch the Belmont Stakes on Saturday, or they can watch any number of races and entertainment productions over the course of the three-day Belmont Stakes Festival. The Belmont Stakes is one of three Triple Crown stakes races, with the other two being the Preakness and the Kentucky Derby. While betting on the horses definitely adds to the thrill, you will also have a wonderful time basking in the great June weather while you cheer on your favorite horses. There are plenty of food and beverage options, and the entertainment segments feature well-known and popular acts. The Belmont Stakes takes place at Belmont Park, which is located at 2150 Hempstead Turnpike, Elmont, NY, 11003. Belmont Park has a seating capacity of around 33,000, and attendees have the option of sitting inside the grandstand or sitting outside in the Backyard, which many who bring their own coolers choose. There are hundreds of HD monitors throughout the venue, and there are video display boards in the Paddock, with Trakus technology. Parking for a fee is available on a first-come, first-served basis. There is a courtesy shuttle bus on select race days.
There have been some spectacular winners during the long history of the Belmont Stakes. One of the most famous horses to win at the Belmont is Secretariat, who won by a 31-length lead and still holds the record for the mile and a half race at 2:24 in 1973. Secretariat was the ninth horse to win the Triple Crown. Other famous horses to win at the Belmont include Seattle Slew, Affirmed, American Pharoah and Rising Star.
As of 2019, there have been 13 winners of the Triple Crown, which includes winning the Belmont Stakes. They are Sir Barton in 1919, Gallant Fox in 1930, Omaha in 1935, War Admiral in 1937, Whirlaway in 1941, Count Fleet in 1943, Assault in 1946, Citation in 1948, Secretariat in 1973, Seattle Slew in 1977, Affirmed in 1978, American Pharoah in 2015 and Justify in 2018.
Belmont Park is a large and friendly racing venue. The atmosphere is open and genial, and many people choose to attend the three-day Belmont Stakes Festival. You are allowed to bring a cooler with canned or plastic drinks and food items, and many people that do so watch the races and other events from the Backyard picnic area. The Backyard also has amenities for children. There are many dining options, such as the Garden Terrace Dining Room, concession stands and food trucks. Fans can also purchase merchandise at various booths.
You can place bets either at the track, online or with mobile devices. There are live teller wagering windows and self-service kiosks throughout the track. The kiosks will take a betting voucher, cash, a mutual ticket, a NYRA Cash Card or a NYRA Bets Account Card. You can buy vouchers at any window, and vouchers and NYRA Cash Cards can be purchased at a voucher window.
