The Falcon Stadium features an incredible view on the outer edges of the venue. The gorgeous blue mountains of Colorado are in the background of the stadium along with the luscious green trees. The seating capacity is just under 47,000. A high-definition video scoreboard with an area of 2,500 feet was installed in 2006 to increase visibility and emphasize special events. The stadium has three decks for seating and a wide press box on home team side. The words “Air Force” are written across the upper deck of seating on the home side with the word “Falcons” written in white in the end zones. Each end zone has an open turf area for extra room and media.
Each football game is enjoyable to watch as you can take in the surroundings in beautiful Colorado Springs, Colorado. Some of the unique traditions at Air Force football games include the Cadet March-on, the trained flying falcons during the game and the lively Air Force student body section’s energy. Before the game, every squadron of the Cadet Wing makes its way onto the field, followed by a grand procession and salute. Each cadet then makes a crazy run to his section right after the national anthem. To display the team’s real-life mascot, the Air Force Falcons has bird trainers spend weeks to train falcon birds to fly over the crowds, reaching speeds of 200 mph.
The main rival for the Air Force Falcons football team is the
Army Black Knights
. This rivalry has a great history and is a competition of the utmost pride since it is a battle between two members of the military. The two teams have battled for the Commander-in-Chief’s Trophy, which is currently most often claimed by the Air Force Falcons, for a total of 20 victories.
The Falcons play in the
NCAA Mountain West Conference
. The Falcons were in the Western Athletic Conference until 1999.
